Happy Halloween

Cheers to you, my favorite of holidays. I have been celebrating you long in advance, with my voracious pillage of all novels vampirish from the entire Twilight series to all 8 Sookie Stackhouse novels and of course, TrueBlood. Add to that my copy of Zombie Survival Guide conveniently placed in the bathroom and my watching of Quarantine on the big screen recently...wow, even I am amazed. I even went to a haunted house Wednesday night.

Maybe it's not as authentic as dancing on the graves of my ancestors in the moonlight, but we all celebrate in our own ways. Bring on the revelry!

Dinosaurs were created to confuse the scholarly

Thoughts flit in and out of my head for a time, wandering to and fro like addicts on a good trip. Lately, I've been thinking with contentment about aging.

Random thoughts on various Europeans

Take these meanderings with a grain of salt...it's not like I'm qualified to judge cultures or nuthin'

The French:
- are a very quiet people. Not alot of yelling.
- don't like to label roads appropriately. They label them by where they dead-end eventually
- are very particular about the pronunciation of their language

The British: ROCK

The Spanish:
- don't care who enter their country
- have the best shopping ever

Americans:
- say waht you will, our airports are EFFICIENT

Diamonds are a hell of a thing

http://www.edwardjayepstein.com/diamond/prologue.htm is a book, available for free, about how the diamond markets work.

It's an extraordinary read, and it reminds me a lot of how powerful marketing is and what incredible forces are exerted on the minds of the public.

The diamond racket is vast and powerful and wants to own your thoughts on how to get married. Will you let them determine your ideas?

Okay...but only this once

According to my LJ account, I have not posted in 22 weeks and counting. Since I started this blog, I've been thinking about what I want it to be about. I've decided that first and foremost, I want it to be an outlet for my ideas, not just a retelling of my life. Let's face it, my life expresses itself all day; but my ideas - they're a little more precious.

But, just this once: life. I'm taking my 9 hour long Step 2 Medical exam tomorrow. It's one of those "I decide your future" things. Keep me in mind please. Thanks.

I am orange today...bright and messy like fingerpaint on the wall

I know I have spoken recently on my love of the view from my window. I have been sitting at the kitchen table for countless hours this week, feverishly doing questions to prepare for a my huge medical school exam for the year. And my blood sugar has been steadily high from inactivity. But starting yesterday, a little birdie has been stopping by to say hello. He lands on the ledge of the window and hops about. I think he is saying, "You can do it. Don't lose hope."

A view

I like the view from my window. I can see trees that look as though they have been enduring for decades. I like to think that if they had thought, it would take them months to complete one. Not an original idea, it probably came from Lord of the Rings. I can see the street. Sometimes these "hooligans" skateboard up and down them. I am told they are really nice boys. And I can barely see a house. But my favorite part is that the sun shines in most brightly from about 3pm to sundown, when I am most awake, when I need it.

A beautiful idea

"The ancients who wished to demonstrate illustrious virtue throughout the Empire first ordered well their own states...Things being investigated, knowledge became complete. Their knowledge being complete, their thoughts were sincere. Their thoughts being sincere, their hearts were then rectified. Their hearts being rectified, their persons were cultivated. Their persons being cultivated, their families were regulated. Their families being regulated, their states were rightly governed. Their states being rightly governed, the whole Empire was made tranquil and happy."

Charlie Chaplin Monologue

Hate to link and run, but my designs are almost done rendering. This monologue is brought to you by the mostly silent Charlie Chaplin, and it's clever and brilliantly delivered and bears messages to which I think we all can relate.

Joss Whedon & Dr. Horrible

I normally don't go for Joss Whedon's stuff, but frankly I'm dumbfounded at how awesome the Dr. Horrible Sing-Along blog is. Catch it free before the end of Sunday July 20 at http://www.drhorrible.com/act_I.html, and make sure to take a peek at the clever Master Plan Whedon's concocted: http://www.drhorrible.com/plan.html.
